jan 1, 638 - Rashidun Caliphate

Description:

The Rashidun Caliphate conquered the Land of Israel from the Byzantine Empire in the 630s CE, with Jerusalem surrendering around 638 CE to Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab. This ended centuries of Byzantine Christian rule. From a Jewish perspective, this was important because Jews, who had often faced restrictions under Byzantine rule, were generally allowed to return to Jerusalem and live there again.
