Description:

The Geneva Accords officially divided Vietnam at the 17th parallel after the First Indochina War.
Ho Chi Minh and the communist Viet Minh controlled North Vietnam, while the South became anti-communist and supported by the United States.
Elections planned for July 1956 were cancelled because the US feared a communist victory.
