Apepi, also called Apophis, was one of the best-known Hyksos rulers of northern Egypt. He ruled from Avaris during the period when Semitic/Canaanite influence in the Delta was strong. Some reconstructions of the Joseph story place Joseph under a Hyksos ruler because a foreign Semitic dynasty might have been more favorable to Joseph’s Canaanite family.Added to timeline:
