jan 1, 760 - Khazar Conversion

Description:

The ruling elite of the Khazar Khaganate, a Turkic empire on the Volga-Caspian steppe, adopted Judaism, attested in the Khazar Correspondence, the Schechter Letter, and Arab geographers. The scope and even the historicity of the conversion are debated, and the Khaganate fell to the Rus around 965 leaving no traceable Jewish continuation. It inspired Yehuda HaLevi's Sefer HaKuzari.
