jan 1, 5 - Magdala Stone

Description:

A carved stone block found in a Galilean synagogue depicts a seven-branched menorah flanked by amphorae and columns, along with architectural motifs and a chariot-throne. It appears to represent the Temple sanctuary itself, carved by someone who had likely seen it, and predates the destruction of 70 CE. Its function is debated — a Torah reading table, a base, or a symbolic representation of the Temple brought into a provincial synagogue. It is the earliest known menorah depiction made while the Temple still stood.
