After inflation reached roughly four hundred percent a year, the Economic Stabilization Plan replaced the old sheqel with the new Israeli shekel at a rate of one thousand to one, introduced through 1985 and fully in force from January 1986. It is the currency in use today, symbol shin drawn through, and the stabilisation is generally regarded as one of the most successful anti inflation programmes carried out anywhere.
