jan 1, 140 - Sanhedrin Relocates to Usha
Description:
Following the defeat of the Bar Kokhba revolt and the Hadrianic persecutions, the surviving sages reconvened at Usha in the Galilee. The gathering there restored rabbinic leadership and issued a series of social ordinances known as the enactments of Usha, covering education, charity, and family support obligations. It marks the permanent shift of the Jewish center from Judea to the Galilee. The generation that met at Usha produced the students whose teachings form the core of the Mishnah.
