jan 1, 170 - Sanhedrin Relocates to Tzippori

Description:

The rabbinic center moved to Beit She'arim and then Tzippori under Rabbi Yehudah HaNasi, where the Mishnah was compiled, and finally settled in Tiberias in the early third century. Tiberias remained the seat of Jewish learning in the land for centuries, producing the Jerusalem Talmud and later the Masoretic vocalization of the Bible. The relocations trace the slow migration of Jewish life northward under Roman rule. Each move was accompanied by the rebuilding of institutions rather than their abandonment.
