Description:

Darius reorganized the Persian empire into satrapies with standardized taxation, coinage, roads, and a royal postal system. He confirmed Cyrus's authorization for rebuilding the Temple after a search of the imperial archives, and the Second Temple was completed in his sixth year. His Behistun Inscription, carved trilingually on a cliff face, provided the key that allowed cuneiform to be deciphered in the nineteenth century. Under his administration the province of Yehud functioned as a small self-governing temple community.
