Description:

Amenhotep III presided over Egypt at the height of its wealth and international influence, ruling for nearly four decades largely without war. His reign produced the Colossi of Memnon, an enormous mortuary temple, and a diplomatic correspondence with the great powers that survives in the Amarna Letters. A topographical list at his temple in Soleb in Nubia contains the phrase the Shasu land of YHW, the earliest known appearance of what may be the divine name, associated with nomadic groups in the region south of Canaan. He was the father of Akhenaten, and his death opens the Amarna period.
