jan 1, 1319 BC - Horemheb (Egypt)
Description:
Horemheb was a general of non royal birth who took the throne after the Amarna line ended and set about erasing it from the record, dismantling Akhenaten's temples and reusing the blocks. He restored the traditional priesthoods, reformed the courts, and reestablished Egyptian administration in Canaan. Having no heir, he named his vizier Ramesses as successor, founding the Nineteenth Dynasty. His reign is the bridge between the Amarna crisis and the aggressive Ramesside presence in the Levant.
