Coriolanus' father, Crassus, left to fight in the war, not without investing money into factory development and nuclear science and advancement in District 13 for the Capital's benefit. While fighting on district soil, he was shot and killed by a rebel sniper. After the war and after the destruction of District 13, his investments took a hit, leaving his remaining family in the Capitol to lose all the money that was previously sustaining them.
