Haymitch had the misfortune of having his birthday land on the annual reaping day. He was born on the 34th Hunger Games, where the victor that year was Beetee Latier from District 3. Every July fourth, Haymitch would have candied jam on bread and watched the Reaping, avoiding the whole birthday cake tradition. On his sixteenth birthday, it was the 50th Hunger Games (the Second Quarter Quell). Woodbine Chance was reaped, but he made a run for it, which resulted in his immediate elimination. To replace him, Haymitch was chosen, which <REDACTED>. Haymitch ended up being the victor of the 50th Hunger Games, becoming the first and only mentor for District 12 tributes. He later stood by his trainee, Katniss Everdeen, co-victor of the 74th Hunger Games, through the Second Rebellion.
