sep 1, 632 BC - Attemped coup by Cylon in Athens

Description:

Son in Law of Theagenes, Tyrant of Megara

Attemped establishing a Tyranny in Athens by marching to the Acropolis with his troops. People were not supportive and he and his men got trapped in the temple of Athena.

It was sacriligeous to kill in the temple so, according to Herodotus, water supplies were cut off and Cylon and his men died of hunger and thirst in the temple.
