jan 1, 597 BC - Babylonian Capture of Jerusalem

Description:

King Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon captured Jerusalem after the rebellion of King Jehoiakim and the brief reign of his son Jehoiachin. Jehoiachin, members of the royal family, soldiers, craftsmen, and leading Judeans were deported to Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar installed Zedekiah as king of Judah. This was the first major Babylonian deportation from Jerusalem, preceding the final destruction of the city and First Temple roughly a decade later.
