jun 28, 1948 - Berlin Airlift begins

Description:

WHAT COULD THE WEST DO?
-Driving through the blockades could be seen as an act of war which was to be avoided at all costs.
-Leaving Berlin would make the Allies look weak and people might not trust them anymore. It would go against the Truman Doctrine, possibly causing communism to spread into other zones of Germany.
-Supplying Berlin by air was the option that was chosen. It was expensive but less risky. The air could not be blocked and if the Soviets shot down the planes, it could be considered an act of war.
