oct 3, 1874 - Civil Rights Act of 1875

Description:

The Civil Rights Act of 1875 was one of the last major Reconstruction statutes, aimed at guaranteeing African Americans equal treatment in public accommodations, public transportation, and to prohibit exclusion from jury service. However, the act was largely ineffective due to lack of enforcement, and in 1883, the Supreme Court declared most of its provisions unconstitutional, which severely undermined the rights of African Americans.
