William Still dies. The Pennsylvania Anti-Slavery Society has William Still publish a book about the Underground Railroad. William Still traveled through Canada to check on the families of escaped blacks, and recording their stories. William Still is almost jailed for helping Jane Johnson and her two sons gain the freedom that they are guarenteed by the law. The Fugitive Slave Act is passed allowing slave catchers to take back slaves anywhere in the US. William Still meets his long-lost brother Peter Still whom his mother had left in slavery. Henry "Box" Brown arrives in Pennsylvania. Ellen and William Craft disquise themselves as a white man and a slave to escape slavery. Still joins the Pennsylvania Anti-Slavery Society, aka the Underground Railroad. William Still marries Letitia George, a skilled dressmaker, whom he has four kids with. Willliam Still moves to Philedelphia, where he works many jobs. William Still is born, the eighteenth child, in Burlington Country, New Jersey.
