I could not send it,--here it is again,--
Nor get a messenger to bring it thee,
So fearful were they of infection.

Unhappy fortune! by my brotherhood,
The letter was not nice but full of charge
Of dear import, and the neglecting it

As signal that thou hear'st something approach.
Give me those flowers. Do as I bid thee, go.

The rigid overcast day had dissolved into the exuberant, deep night. Though the desolation of the bleak daytime had passed, the cacophony of shrieks resonating from the depths of Marie Hanson's pitch-black ocean of thoughts was yet to fade. The mediocre teenage girl was shrouded in the darkness of her own turmoil and loneliness. Ever since the malevolent, lingering coronavirus variant, COVID-19 had lumbered Australia into a heart-wrenching, isolated lockdown, Marie had been trapped in a cage of anxiety.
Marie rolled over in her bed, running her fingers down the decrepit, peeling paint. Her eyes stung with tears. The recent curtain of quarantine had drawn the exerted girl into a state of angry wistfulness.
“Marie!” The unmistakable voice of her father boomed from downstairs.
“Come here darling!” The soft harmonic echo of her mother's command drifted upstairs.
Marie flung herself down the staircase. Excitement danced in her fluttering heart. Her dad was never home this late!
“Ok!” She muttered mutinously as she entered the kitchen. Her parents glowed with pride and jubilation… this was a good sign.
A warm smile glimmered on her Mum's face. “Darling, we have something to tell you!”
“Something to tell me?” She grunted, her delightfulness obscured in a mask of drowsiness. Marie's eyes were heavy with fatigue, and tiredness coursed through her.
“If we can get vaccinated…” The words coming from Marie's dad's thin lips wrought a havoc of tension in the room. The hopeful girl's lungs twisted with trepidation. Marie had thought it was too good to be true… “You can go back to school!” Her dad whooped, and the suspension gave way to euphoria. The knot inside of Marie untightened. Finally, she could go to school again, and see the people she so longed to see!
Marie's face filled with its former vibrance and saturation, and her eyes were no longer sunken and hollow. She straightened her shoulders and smiled gleefully from ear to ear.
FRIAR LAURENCE
Romeo!
Advances
Alack, alack, what blood is this, which stains
The stony entrance of this sepulchre?
What mean these masterless and gory swords
To lie discolour'd by this place of peace?
Enters the tomb
Romeo! O, pale! Who else? what, Paris too?

As her tender green hands banish the harsh calls of the city,
the palm tree sings with the gales and blackbirds,
and harbours those who are attacked by the rashness of mankind,
as she bestows the prisoners with freedom.
The palm tree beckons us to clamber her mahogany spine,
so we can flee the war we wreaked.
As we nestle in her genial embrace,
she tells us about a vivid world,
where there were no fumes of charcoal contaminating the cerulean blue sky,
but creatures of all kinds soared across the heavenly domain.
For in this realm there were no divided souls,
but unity across the land, sea and sky.
Now, the palm tree grows grey,
and the memory of the realm withers away.
She gives mankind her last sagacious words,
the world weathers with you.
