Description:

Arlosoroff headed the political department of the Jewish Agency — effectively the Yishuv's foreign minister — while still in his early thirties. He negotiated the Haavara Agreement with Nazi Germany, which allowed roughly 60,000 German Jews to emigrate to Palestine and transfer part of their assets in the form of German goods, a deeply controversial arrangement that undercut the international anti-Nazi boycott. He was shot on the Tel Aviv beach in June 1933, and the unsolved murder poisoned relations between the labor and revisionist camps for decades. His death removed one of the most capable diplomatic minds the movement had.
