The Aššãploi Revolt (aug 8, 1373 – sep 29, 1373)
Description:
City of Aššã, some city-state members of the Southern Council (Thark, Ìperovĩ, Ãnak, Lejacè) vs. Oipienta
Economical downturn from the 1st Hells War led to major food riots from the lower class population in the Eteiva Region and pressure from these riots and lack of support from the Oipientian monarchy pushed the Southern nobility to band together to fight for aid and/or independence. Aššã, a major and ancient city in the region, took the first step to rise against Queen Eledf Karmen and her council.
Oipientian victory
Duke of Tha Ṡvupenta Eira Pauškova of Aššã, one of the more powerful lords on the Southern Council had put down an urban riot beginning of July 1373 which resulted in the death of around 100 peasants and 5 soldiers and summoned a meeting of the Southern Council. All the members (minus the Lord of Thes) met in Aššã a week later. There, Eira discussed his grievances and proclaimed his plan to rebel against the crown in order to establish southern supremacy in the main Council of Oipienta. He requested the entire council partake and join his side, but not many of the lords believed they had the strength to win. Some, who Eira had alliances with like the Lords of Thark and Lejace, agreed while some others required a lot of discussion like Iperovi. Eira and his supporters began to secretly raise troops and with some of the money they had left, hired mercenaries from Krilkot and Wargtof.
Once they arrived in the beginning of August, Eira set in motion his rebellion. His troops seized the Kuepliot Delegate House in Aššã and allowed only a single messenger to escape by boat to Kueplios to deliver the news. In about a month, Eira's armies had taken control of the majority of southern half of Eteiva, but once the Royal Army arrived, his troops were no match for them and a bloodbath ensued.
Queen Eledf was furious once she received the report and decided to make an example out of the rebelling lords for their blasphemy. So once her troops arrived in Anak and Thark, they began to burn the city centers and palaces. The Seige of Thark lasted a few weeks until defenses were broken and food had run out and then with the castle stormed, Lord Pilosa Gäbioka of Thark and his family were taken hostage and hanged below the Gates of Thark for all to see. In Anak, the city was also burned but not as badly as Thark and after a 3 day seige of the citadel, Lord Hasiopla Hatheškuda of Anak surrendered and requested exile. He was granted his wish but his sons and wife were killed and he was sent to Poxe Island off the coast from Taṡĩ Favek. Iperovi was never attacked as after the destruction of Thark and Anak, Lord Atsiaca Woikuško surrendered. Due to there being no bloodshed from his part, Queen Eledf allowed him to live, but stripped him of all his ties and exiled him to an Oipientixian monastery near Darob. His family was allowed to live, however his son was castrated and made into a sex servant for Queen Eledf's handmaids and his wife and daughters became her maids as well.
The city of Lejace was much weaker than the other rebelling city-states and was a vassal of Aššã so it was forced to partake in the revolt. The ruling noble, Lord Pilosa III Pauškova, 2nd son of Eira Pauškova, physically partook in most of the battles, but was killed during the Battle of Ṡouršeivo Road. This meant that the title of Lord of Lejace transfered to his son, Eira, but he was only 3 years old at the time. So, once the Queen's men arrived in Lejace, no soldiers were present and the streets were empty. They marched right to the citadel where they were met by his wife, Lady Hïpneia Laivapea. There, she gave the men her best accomodations and a feast in exchange for a few days for her letter to arrive to the Queen. In her letter, she stated that she had pled her husband not to join his father's rebellion and that she made sure that once he left for battle, that no soldiers would remain in the city. However, her main point was that she requested the Barony of Lejace with the overthrow of her husband. The Queen granted this as she believed that it could be a vital move in the future in case of more rebellions in the region.
Aššã received the extreme majority of anger from the Queen and once the soldiers reached the city, they started out raiding every single building, including temples, banks, markets, and high class villas while also desecrating the entire city's populace. An unimaginable amount of rape and death occurred not even before the walls were breached and this path of fury continued during the entire seige. The citadel's seige lasted about two weeks and after the 3rd day of it, fires were being started all throughout the city. Duke Eira Pauškova chose to stay in the citadel though having a route of escape (which he forced his family and most trusted servants to use where they managed to escape to Thes). Once the citadel was breached, the entire place was raided and Eira was captured alongside some of his servants and council members who chose to stay with him. They were then tortured where the soldiers learned of the Southern Council and then crucified, yet still alive. Queen Eledf arrived in the city two days after the breaching of the citadel and walked in front of the crucified duke and lords during what is now known as her Procession of Power. She sat in a chair which was carried by some of the duke's servants, including the son of the Iperovi lord, from the citadel to the main square of the city where their crosses were then placed. They remained alive for the next few days while the entire city of Aššã was being burnt. Queen Eledf ordered the absolute destruction of the city and so the soldiers lit fires and barrels of oil all around it and within it.
The result of the rebellion marked a complete turn around for Queen Eledf's reign and demonstrated the importance she held for her power as many doubted her reign at the start. She became known as the Bloody Queen or the Queen of Crosses. Due to the absence of now three major Eteivan lords, Eledf placed three of the leading generals of the rebellion their titles as a gift of loyalty in exchange for total loyalty to her. The Southern Council decided to disband out of fear after the Queen sent messages to all its members demanding complete loyalty to the crown or death and that any sign of unrest from them meant crucifixion. A steady decline of the power of the Eteiva Region began, which would later lead to a period of warring lords and anarchy that was primarily ignored by the Oipientian Crown until the reign of Javik II where he attempted to quell some of the chaos. Some success came of this though the 2nd Hells War pressured the lords of Eteiva to band together due to invading Grotian forces. After the war, the second Southern Council was founded and preparations for a larger scale rebellion began and culminated in the Javician Civil War in 1505.
