Description:

The long-running Israel–Iran shadow war escalated into direct state-to-state conflict, with Israel striking Iranian air defenses, ballistic-missile infrastructure, nuclear facilities, senior commanders, and key figures connected to Iran’s nuclear program. In the June 2025 strikes, Israel killed much of Iran’s senior military leadership, including:

Armed Forces Chief Mohammad Bagheri
Gholamali Rashid

Together with prominent nuclear scientists such as:

Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani
Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, among others.

The confrontation escalated further in 2026, when a joint U.S.–Israeli campaign struck Iran’s leadership and strategic infrastructure and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28, 2026. His death, together with the earlier elimination of senior commanders and nuclear scientists, represented an unprecedented blow to the leadership structure of the Islamic Republic and marked the most dramatic phase yet of the direct Israel–Iran conflict.
