Nehemiah ben Hushiel (jan 1, 585 – jan 1, 617)

Description:

Nehemiah ben Hushiel was a Jewish leader associated with the Jewish–Sasanian capture of Jerusalem in 614 CE. According to later Jewish and Christian traditions, he helped lead Jewish forces allied with the Persian army and briefly became one of the principal Jewish authorities in Jerusalem after the Byzantine defeat. He is associated with strong messianic expectations of the period and, in some traditions, with preparations for restoring Temple worship and establishing a new priesthood. His rule was short-lived, and he was likely killed during the violent struggles that followed the conquest, probably sometime between 614 and 617 CE.
