Gamaliel VI was the last known Jewish Nasi, or Patriarch, in the Land of Israel. A descendant of the Hillelite patriarchal dynasty, he represented the Jewish community under Roman rule and held authority over communal and religious affairs. After his death around 425 CE, the patriarchal office was not continued, bringing an end to a centuries-old institution of Jewish leadership.Added to timeline:
