Persians and Medes were closely related, Greeks couldn't really distinguish between them
After Athens role in supporting the Ionian Revolt in Asia Minor, King Darius sought retribution and planned to invade Thrace, Macedonia and later Attica.
Later Invasions fought by his son Xerxes led to the infamous Battle of Thermophylae fought by the Spartans under King Leonidas.
