Later renovations in 7th century BC caused the location thought to have been originally built then. The location of Pi-Ramesses is only 2km away from Avaris. After the inhabitants of Avaris were driven out, construction of Pi-Ramesses made the two sites grow into each other. Pi-Ramesses may have been the location of the Biblical "Raamses" before the later construction at the site. Ahmose I drove out the remaining Hyksos from Avaris, matching Manetho's description of the second group. This is the total of the wandering after leaving Sinai, the years under judges (including Eli and Samuel), and the reign of Saul and David. It does not count the time of conquest or the times of oppression between judges.
